Guy Macon is the distant relative of the famous country
musician Uncle Dave Macon. He has some of the rotund
qualities of the Macon lineage, but Guy Macon is an
engineer. For details of how Guy Macon engineering resume,
you can see his web site,
http://www.guymacon.com
For samples of Uncle Dave Macon's work, do a google search
with the name in quotes.

I hope that Guy Macon someday takes up the banjo and sings
"rock Around My Saro Jane," but in the meantime, he is a guy
who is running a contest that has to do with popularity. It
is an act of will, a thelemic act, and perhaps a magical
act, an attempt to capture the attention of a machine and to
bend its algorithm to the will of Guy Macon.

Actually my own popularity is of interest with respect to
the will of machines, as well. As a person with two names --
cat yronwode and catherine yronwode -- i find myself
somewhat split at google and other machine-based search
technologies. A machine introduces irrelevant distinctions
between cat yronwode and catherine yronwode that do not
exist.

Guy Macon, on the other hand is simply -- Guy Macon. When
given only his surname Macon as a clue, a human might be
confused between the city of Macon, Georgia (and i do
believe Guy Macon is a descendent of the person after whom
the city was named), the musician Uncle Dave Macon, and Guy
Macon, but once the full name Guy Macon is spoken, a person
will not make that error and will invariably distinguish Guy
Macon from another guy, such as Uncle Dave Macon, or from a
city, such as Macon, Georgia.

Likewise, to a search engine, even a dumb one like google,
there are fundamental differences between Guy Macon, Uncle
Dave Macon, Macon, Georgia, and a guy from Macon, Georgia
that parallel the differences that a human being would see
if placed before life-like simulations of Guy Macon, Uncle
Dave Macon, Macon, Georgia, and a random guy from Macon,
Georgia. Furthermore, if the search engine parses words for
nearness in a sentence, it will even distinguish Guy Macon
from "a guy from Macon, Georgia" because the word "from"
comes between "guy" and "Macon" in that sentence and,
furthermore, the word "guy" is in lowercase, as opposed to
the capitalization of "Guy" in the proper name "Guy Macon."

Meanwhile, to the same type of machine, cat yronwode and
catherine yronwode are as different as Guy Macon and Uncle
Dave Macon. This is why machines are stupid. It is not why
people are smart, however. After all, people built the
machines that cannot tell that cat yronwode is the same
entity as catherine yronwode, even while correctly
distinguishing Uncle Dave Macon from Guy Macon, Macon,
Georgia, and a random guy from Macon, Georgia.

It's pathetic, that's what it is. And Guy Macon reaps the
benefit of search engine technology, while cat yronwode goes
along blithely splitting the fame that should adhere equally
to catherine yronwode.

Cordially,

An online acquaintance of Guy Macon, several other guys from
Macon, and a true fan of Uncle Dave Macon,

Congratulations on a longer life expectancy, Guy! Perhaps you can
have a new photo taken of the New Guy Macon -- same as the Old
Guy Macon, but leaner. Right now the picture on the Guy Macon
home page is fairly wide. Simpler than making a new photo would
be to change the image width and height to a more pleasing and
authentic aspect ratio. Perhaps a 10% decrease in horizontal
pixel count would produce a likeness of Guy Macon we would see
him now, if we actually ever saw Guy Macon.

a guy from Macon, but macon a difference to one special guy)
